2026 Theme Something Better (Hebrews 11:40) |
Territorial BriefThe Salvation Army began its operations in southeastern India on May 27, 1892. This initiative was inspired by a vision received by Major Deva Sundaram while praying and fasting with three officers at Medicine Hill, during a time of heightened persecution in Southern Tamil Nadu. On October 1, 1970, the Tamil-speaking segment of the Southern India Territory became a separate entity due to rapid growth within the organisation. The South Eastern Territory includes Puducherry (Pondicherry) and Tamil Nadu. The Salvation Army is known as "Tamil Ratchaniya Senai"(இரட்சணிய சேனை) in Tamil and "Raksha Sainyam"(രക്ഷാ സൈന്യം) in Malayalam.. The gospel is preached in English, Malayalam, and Tamil, and the organisation publishes periodicals such as Chiruveeran, Home League Quarterly, Poresatham, and The Officer, all of which are in Tamil. Our work encompasses community health and nursing, education, vocational training, and responses to modern slavery and human trafficking. |
