The Salvation Army India Western Territory hosted a dynamic and transformative Women Development Seminar from 13–15 January 2026 at the Red Shield Guest House in Mumbai. Organised under the leadership of Commissioner Ratnasundari Polimetla, TPWM and supported by Lieut. Colonel Vanlalnungi, TSWM, the event aimed to empower, equip, and encourage women officers and local leaders for deeper spiritual impact and more effective ministry. The seminar was generously supported by a grant from the India National Office, Kolkata.
A total of 65 delegates and 7 resource persons participated, representing Gujarat, Maharashtra and THQ. Each division strengthened the gathering through the presence of its DDWM, a Corps Officer, and a Home League Secretary, making the seminar a rich blend of experience, fellowship and learning.
Fellowship and Welcome
Delegates arrived on the evening of 13 January and were welcomed with a fellowship dinner that set a warm tone for the days ahead. Women from diverse regions connected, forming bonds that enriched the seminar experience.
Inspiration, Learning and Leadership Development
The second day began with an inaugural program led by Lieut. Colonel Vanlalnungi, TSWM. A meaningful devotion by Major Nalini Hiwale focused on Lydia from Acts 16, encouraging every woman to cultivate spiritual depth, nurture their families in faith and offer their lives in generous service to God.
Commissioner Ratnasundari Polimetla, TPWM, then lit the ceremonial lamp, reminding the delegates that Jesus is the Light of the World and that they, too, are called to shine His light wherever they serve.
A highlight of the day was the session “The Role of Women in the Church,” creatively presented by the TPWM. DDWMs portrayed biblical women - Esther, Deborah, Ruth, Mary Magdalene and Mariyam - bringing their stories to life. Through this engaging presentation, the TPWM emphasised courage, leadership, devotion, praise and faithfulness, inspiring the women to reflect these virtues in their ministries.
Administrative coordination followed, where DDWMs finalised Home League Rally dates and discussed the effective use of Helping Hand funds. Though a planned self-defence workshop by the police had to be cancelled due to election duties, the time was wisely redirected to leadership discussions.
The afternoon focused on women's health and well-being. Dr. Amrita Jain delivered an insightful session on menopause, breast cancer and cervical cancer, stressing early detection and proactive care. Dr. Prachi Makwana followed with practical homoeopathic guidance, demonstrating how simple, everyday remedies can promote better health.
Technology empowerment came through an on-screen training session by Miss. Deepali Jaiswar, who taught participants how to navigate Office 365 and Microsoft Teams to streamline reporting and enhance collaboration. This was complemented by a clear and practical session on bookkeeping by Mr. Pravin Magar, equipping every participant—regardless of background—with confidence in financial management.
The day concluded with divisional presentations, where leaders shared achievements, challenges and testimonies of God's work across the territory. These reports fostered mutual encouragement and a sense of collective mission.
Vision, Ministry and Commitment
The final day began with a powerful devotion by Major Champa Parmar from 2 Kings 6:15–17, reminding the delegates of God's unfailing protection and presence, even in overwhelming circumstances.
Lieut.-Colonel Vanlalnungi presented the Mission and Vision of the Women's Ministries, emphasising transformation, empowerment, global connection, lifelong learning and engagement in social justice. She also addressed key ministry areas, including fundraising, the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, medical fellowship support and membership processes.
A deeply moving session on human trafficking was conducted by Major Catherine Parmar, OIC of Jeevan Asha. The skit performed by the Jeevan Asha boys left a lasting emotional impact, highlighting the urgent need for awareness, prevention and compassionate intervention.
Leaders from Home League, League of Mercy and Junior Home League shared insights into their ministries, underscoring the importance of accurate and timely reporting to support effective administration and mission continuity.
A Closing Filled with Renewal
The seminar concluded with a joyful closing meeting led by Lieut-Colonel Jyoti Kalkumbe. Local officers shared heartfelt testimonies of how they felt strengthened, equipped and encouraged. A final message on the theme “Way Maker” reminded everyone that Jesus remains the One who opens paths even in impossible circumstances.
