3 million Salvation Army volunteers = what, exactly?

Apr 26, 2017

There's a phrase we say all the time at The Salvation Army: "We couldn't do what we do without our volunteers," or something to that effect. And it’s true. We need our volunteers. All 3 million of them. But what exactly is it that we do that wouldn't get done without this elite list of 3 million people?

3 million volunteers = 55 million hot meals provided to those in need

3 million volunteers = 275,900 people receiving assistance in the aftermath of a natural disaster

3 million volunteers = 982,800 people participating in senior citizen programs

3 million volunteers = 3.2 million people getting help with gifts, food, and clothes for the holidays

3 million volunteers = 232,700 youth attending summer camps

3 million volunteers = 1 million people benefiting from community center programs in underserved communities

3 million volunteers = 25 million people, every year, receiving some kind of help from The Salvation Army

But 3 million volunteers equals so much more than just services, gifts, and programs. Three million volunteers also equals an increased sense of community, changed hearts, and happy faces, and an overall increase in people simply Doing the Most Good.

So when we say, "We couldn't do what we do without you," what we really mean is "We hope you realize just how much good you do."

And so, to those of you who already serve alongside us, thank you! To those of you who want to start Doing the Most Good, we encourage you to get in contact with your local Salvation Army to see what volunteering opportunities are available in your area. You won't be disappointed, and neither will those whose lives you change.
