Women Ministry of Kottarakara Division arranged a public awareness programme with the theme – Mission To Serve, as the part of the observances of Home League Sunday at Central junction Kottarakara against drugs and alcohol on 15 July 2018. Women and children in the family, the victims of alcohol and drug issues lose their well-being and hope and struggle a lot to cope with the competitive world around us today. Major Jaimol Roy, DDWM spoke in her address to the public. Drugs and alcohol addiction should be treated as a health issue, as the rest of the members in the family are also affected badly. This leads to serious socio-economic challenges disturbs the pattern in every society which meant for development and progress ends with breaking down, including domestic violence and child abuse. The harmful use of drugs and alcohol among children and students alarmingly increases and it destroys development of the person as well as our Nation. She added and assured that God will accept those who are ready to repent and come back to God as the father in the story of Prodigal son in Luke 15.
Major Anniyamma Mathew, DSWM presided the programme. An officer in the Army shared her experiences as her family gone through several consequences of drugs, and her testimony influenced the audience and paid their attention. More than 100 Senior and Junior Home League members in uniform, jointly presented Timbrel display and melodious songs and these attracted many people even passengers in moving vehicles. Home league local officers and members in Salvation Army uniform distributed Special pamphlets on drugs and alcohol prepared by the Division to passengers, drivers etc. Many listeners approached the team for counseling.
